FYI here's an other pict of the spring unit, so on it's side apparently, like a brown fender reverb head. And a pict of the nice plate from image two.

You know I tried grommets on my 5C8 for the first 2 6SC7s, simple tweed era style, no plate just btwn the screws and socket. Better than nothing I guess but not too inspiring. I don't think it would do much at all in a combo, but your success is good to hear.

Got to give Leo a lot of credit for all those thousands of rattle, buzz, and squeal free combos he mass produced. That shit's hard to do!

Anything that works is fine. No matter how much some criticize good old Leo, he can't be denied his healthy common sense and technical intuition. Criticizing his products from today's perspective is simply not fair. many of them still work just fine some 60+ years later.
I'll be back once I have a few of these plates made and more extensively tested. I'm a belt & suspenders kind of guy...
In the meantime, a Happy & Prosperous 2014 to all of us here.
