What do you guys consider to be good open frame vintage tweed iron?
Mercury magnetics?
Mojo?
Hammond?
Heyboer?
And does anyone know what the primary impedance on these is? Ive heard 6000ohms? but usually 4000 is the normal for two 6L6s...
thanks

MM is very good but very expensive!
Heyboer is also very good and not so expensive, but maybe not in open frame.
In closed frame, allenamps.com has some very good OT iron, most of it by Heyboer to Dave Allen's specs, and I've used some of it. Excellent stuff. And reasonable too.
I am currently in pre-build on a 5E7 Bandmaster based harp amp which I bought 3 - 12 ohm speakers for so that in parallel I can use a 4 ohm OT. That OT is the Allen 4 pound weight 4k primary 3 9/16 OT. I have used it before and it rocks, believe me. It has bells so it's not open frame, but in vintage Fender type builds all his stuff excels.

I was trying to maintain vintage accuracy, but I believe you, I know davids stuff rocks, however I cant order from him, he doesnt ship to europe...
Why the 12ohm? the bandmaster works ok with the 8hms 3 speakers mismatch.

12 ohm speaker
Three in parallel means no mismatch to a 4 ohm OT. Maybe not that important but as far as I have been able to determine, the early 5E7 Bandmasters used a custom 2.6 ohm OT so they matched three 8 ohm speakers. By '59 they were apparently using a standard 4 ohm OT.
For vintage accuracy, MM is I think as good as any in their Toneclone series, (except possibly for Marshall OTs, but that's another story) but you will pay bigtime unfortunately.

Hey Riscado,
Try Shinrock transformers as they are a European company. I know the UK based 18watt guys swear by his stuff.
Shinrock.com is his url.
MAN! I feel really bad for Ingo. His site says his daughter is in the hospital with a brain tumor! I hope she gets well soon.

Shinrock
Shinrock is one of the two sites I was thinking of for Marshalls in particular, the other being Marstran.com.
That's too bad about his daughter; however there are drugs and techniques now that weren't available even ten years ago that can put it into indefinite remission in many cases.

I don't know "tribe" brain tumor but my wife just had a 5.5 cm tumor removed earlier this year. Surgery is only the start - the rehabilitation is tough too.
Yes, modern medicine is amazing. I can easily imagine that 10 years ago, my wife's tumor would have gone undetected until her death. Between the more difficult times, we do pause to consider our blessings.
Best wishes to Ingo's family.
