So, please educate me. What did I miss? I never went to class
Phil, notice in the RCA data the screen voltage is significantly lower than the pate voltage, which is not the case in most guitar amps. That reduces the current at the Vg1=0 knee, so a higher load impedance is required to hit it.
Martin, thank you for teaching this class. :o

the last time i checked antique electronic suppply / cedist does not carry magnetic components transformers. the eia code on their transformers is 989 which is Marvel Electric Corp
Triode Electronics sells Magnetic Components Inc products with a 166 EIA code
http://www.davelevasseur.com/1994%20EIA ... 20Book.pdf
if u go here http://www.marvelelectric.com it clearly states that Mag Comp is a division of marvel
two different companies with two different specs

If you go to the Magnetic Components website, this is what you'll see if you want to make a purchase...two retailers.

I see where i got the specs i initially quoted now. It's been several years so i forgot and reversed what the actual specs of OT's i have used. It was the Hammond i first used that was 3.2k (1750n) and the Mag comp 3.6k. I could have sworn it was the hammond that was 3.6 so i assumed it was the MC that was 3.2k. The hammond did sound thicker but less lively which makes sense from what you all said. I also have a 4k heyboer thats almost painfully bright and thin and i don't think it's 100% because of the fact it's 4k. It's just like that naturally with el34's or 6l6 i suppose due to heyboer's design. But i assume a bit of that is also from the fact it's a 4k primary.
