I have a client who wants to send his Silverface Vibro Champ to a friend in Spain as a gift. It appears that the amp he has agrees with the schematic at this link: http://www.webphix.com/schematic%20heav ... _ab764.pdf
I am reluctant to convert the amp, since I have no way of testing true function, other than measuring that all the voltages drop to half their original values.
So, do y'all think that's enough of a test? Has anyone done this conversion?
Thanks

Do you a 220V outlet in the house? Clothes dryer, air conditioner, etc?

I do, but a US 220V outlet is not the same as a European outlet, since an appliance outlet uses two legs of 120V. If there's a way to wire up an outlet that would work, I'd sure appreciate the advice.

Re: Silverface Vibro Champ wall voltage conversion
Seems you need an Hammond 290AEX for the conversion
and a 120v - 220v transformer to perform the test
if you can't find one you can use 3 transformers
the primary must be 110v-115v
about the secondary is important that all the transformers has the same voltage, in the example they are 12v but with (as an example) 3 x 24v transformers the result is the same
Pay attention to the VA rating of the transformer, they must be rated a bit more than the 290AEX transformer

Re: Silverface Vibro Champ wall voltage conversion
An appliance outlet should be appropriate for the test. USA homes are actually 120-0-120 so the supply is 240 but with a CT that's grounded and provided as "neutral."
Just need to plug into it. I think the ground would be fine too but I would feel better w/o the death cap which was on my '74 with the factory 3prong plug.
I like the idea of plugging into 120 1st and checking for "half" voltages. May not be exactly or even near half, especially the PS. But it would confirm you wired it correctly.

If it says "Vintage" on it, -it isn't.

Don't forget RV centers have plugs you can get to convert from 120v plug to 220v plug just pick the one that matches your dryer, electric stove or shop welder plug style. Since the amp in question is wired for 220v this type of converter plug should be what you need.
