Which amp to build with surplus OT, PT

Post by deltacomet »

I got a transformer set from ceriatone OTS 50 and OT PT from an YCV80 (PT - 2x 180v ac, OT - 96 ohm primary 80watt ).

Which amp can I do with these OT and PT ?

I would like to do something like

distortion :
TW express distortion amp
marshall lead

Clean :
Twin
SSS
Dc30

Not all in the same amp. I know that I probably cannot reuse my OT but if sometime something match with ...

The primary spec on the OT is not right. The YCV80 runs 4x5881, which should have a primary somewhere between 3.3k and 4k.

I don't remember the voltages on the OTS PT. TW is pretty sensitive to voltages. OTOH, a Marshall circuit is pretty forgiving. You could do a 50 watt plexi or something similar.

I certainly hope to guide you, but can you tell me what experience you have building amps? Just want to make sure my advice will lead to your success.

If you're new to amp building I think it is best to start out with a kit, where you will learn debugging skills and some theory.

I'm sure an experienced amp builder could produce something with those parts, or any random parts. A first timer will not be able to produce an amp from those parts. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. As Nietzsche said,

“He who would learn to fly one day must first learn to walk and run and climb and dance; one cannot fly into flying. ”

Bite off small chunks of success, and you can do anything. Bite off the whole world and you are nothing.

Thanks LeftyStrat for your help.

I'm not a beginner and I'm not an expert. I know my electric formula and I'm able to read schematic. I want to learn more about tube.

I bought 2 set of transfo to compare sound. One than I keep for my amp and the other for maybe a tube tester but for now I think more about an amp.

I searched for schematic but seem that YCV PT is too low for project and OTS too high. I keep some hope for ots PT.

I have no hope for the OT to match with other amp

Very best advice is to go to your profile and update your location. I'm here trying to help you when you might live in the North Pole. I don't help people in the North Pole because Santa fucked me over one time.

Seriously, there are knowledgable people on here in your area, that would be more than willing to help you learn the ropes.

It's hard to help an anonymous fuck.
