Yes I should have added that.

Tin the tip with a blob of solder and it will heat the hole much quicker.

Also if working on PCB use the lowest heat you can get away with as the higher temps may lift the pad.

I heat up the solder and use a straw in my mouth to blow the solder through the hole.I'm not recomending anyone else try it.

Blow through the straw? That's brilliant! Why didn't I think of that? I've been doing it backwards all these years. Maybe now I'll be able to taste food again!

When I need to open a stubborn hole, I stand the board vertically in the panavise, so that one eye sees the component side of the board, an the other eye sees the solder side. Soldering iron in my right hand heats the pad from one side of the board, and solder sucker in my left hand sucks from the opposite side.

Now that might work with a small air compressor.
I happen to have a little one that would work...

It works(don't try it) unless you have bong lung or something.I just do it over the trash can so solder bits go in there.Leaves both hands free also

This is an interesting thread...First we're drilling circuit boards and now we're blowin through straws...to get rid of some solder?

:P

Disclaimer: These are dangerous stunts that should only be attempted by trained professionals. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.

I guess we should distinguish between having the circuit board installed in the amp or having the board out of the amp on the bench.

The reason I like to use the sucker in the amp is that you can usually clean out an eyetlet without the solder falling through to the chassis.

I also use a dental mirror to look underneath to check for blobs.
Those can raise havoc if they are floating around the amp.
