How do you hook up to a dummy load resistor?

Post by Gibson924 »

kind of a novice question. How do you connect to just a plain heatsinked 100watt resistor. are you guys connecting the leads to a 1/4" jack to plug into and how?

what is the best way to have a semi permanent rig for burn ins and testing and such. what is everyones setup? Thanks

This is the one I made from Aiken's site:

I made version 2 w/4,8,&16 ohms. I used three jacks instead of one jack and a switch. Just wire it like an OT.

There's a lot of other info here:

I use alligator clips.

If I only did nearly-finished guitar amps, yes, that would be the best way. The dummy load "is" a speaker, just makes no sound. Electrically and mechanically it should "work the same" as a speaker, which in the guitar-amp world is usually on a 1/4" plug.
