Fender mod. Trainwreck channel

Post by chocopower »

Hi!!

Is my first post.. sorry for my english...

I´m a proud owner of a Guyatone GA-1050.. is a 40watts Twin Reverb clon..

After mod the Normal channel looking for a more crunch sound.... i saw this in your forum.

traiwerk

and now i´m gonna mod it again...

this is my modded channel:

Guyatone stock

and this are my schematic for this mod..

Guyatone Traiwerk

Tonestack and grounded cathode changes are easy.... but after the second gain stage is when i´m not sure...

Should i conect 2nd to 3rd gain stage throw the 10pf-3.3M pair?
or sould i do the conection using the Trainwerk way (via 220k/and grounded 330k), direct to 3rd gain stage plate?

I supose Vibrato channel still should use the 10pf/3.3M...

Best regards from Galicia and sorry again for my bad english....

Well, I'll take a stab at this. I think the 3rd stage is necessary to recover and mix the reverb with the dry signal. I don't think you want to use it to incease the designed gain. I think that you will need another gain stage after this triode, if you intend to keep the reverb / vibrato channel along with the normal channel, and approach Wreck level gain. That's my best guess, but I doubt it will hurt anything to try.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen a wreck with reverb before. It may be pretty difficult.

What bad English? Your English is fine.

hi, and thanks for you feedback!

i know they are diferent amps. I´m just looking for a more crunch sound to make a good channel to use my drive effects....
I,m more interesting in sound testure that in gain/distorsion level... so i,m gonna try this mod with a stock 3rd gain stage...

Just one more questions....

Have any sense do the change in the imput grid resistor; dropp the 68k to 33k?...

thanks!!

The resistor is there to stop external radio frequency (RF) interference with the input signal. The AX84 guys http://www.ax84.com typically recommend mounting this resistor on the tube socket and run a shielded wire from the jack to the resistor.

Looking at the Wreck schematics, some of them indicate a shielded wire from the input jack to the input stage grid, but eliminate the resistor altogether. So, yes I think you could reduce it or probably eliminate it, if you have a shielded wire.

FYI, I think you'll want to try out these ideas one at a time. That is, implement one tweak, evaluate it, then try something else if necessary.
