Popping sound troubleshooting

Update for those following this thread. I thought the problem of popping was solved by toggling the ground switch to the position the amp worked in before the cap job. It seemed to cure the popping, but then returned no matter what position the ground toggle. This morning I removed the "death cap". Even this did not stop the popping, although now it was only intermittant. Now, after half a dozen short test turning the amp on and back off the popping is seldom if at all. I'm hoping that a leaky death cap was the problem, and that there was just some stored energy in the amp still causing some popping.

It might be the standby switch itself; small body switch being used to switch B+. They can arc internally. Easy to replace.
