Re: Egnater Rebel 20 hum
Bad news, good news. The bad news is the bias supply caps didn't solve the hum. The good news is, a complete filter recap did the job, and the amp is really nice and quiet. The bad news is, including sourcing the parts, it took FIVE hours. It's not easy to get to the solder side of the boards in the damned, cramped enclosure, and I did it twice because I wanted to see if the bias caps worked before going whole hog.

And that is why I call those amps Chinese handcuffs. If you order the parts from Mouser you can double the misery!

No kidding, man. I was sweating it out during reassembly, thinking how easy it would be to break something unseen or replace one of the jumpers in the wrong spot and have to spend many more hours troubleshooting. What a relief it was when it powered up in perfect shape!dorrisant wrote:Still, overall good news... it works!

Re: Egnater Rebel 20 hum
I had an Egnater Tourmaster combo come across my bench with a blown power section. Really poor quality, chinese everything. Even the OEM documentation for the PT was in chinese. That amp became a 100W custom plexi build and I broke down and e-cycled the old amp. Didn't save one single part.
