bright cap on the master pot ?
I know amps have bright caps on the gain pot, is it a bad idea to use a bright cap on a master pot? I have a CAA pt100, putting a 50pf cap, on the master volume, instead of the gain pot, sounds good to my ears. Is it OK to do this? thanks

Yeah. Fine and dandy and all that junk and stuff.
Re: bright cap on the master pot ?
I just built a 5c1 with a bright cap across the volume pot, wiper to output. This arrangement works until you max the volume control, then it no longer affects the tone. How can you get a consistent "bright" effect, regardless of volume setting?

Fly a 270k off the output of the pot and bypass it with somthing bright.

Sure, Dumbles have a small cap over the master volume sometimes. That sure is a nice amp you have there. You know, John Suhr actually pops up around here sometimes, so maybe he can give his blessing on your mod

after playing it, with and without, I kept it stock (john Suhr did it right) I did contact John Suhr about this stuff and he has been great! He helped me out in making a footswitch for the amp and bias stuff, he's a nice guy. I really like this amp. I had to sell an amp and guitar, to buy it used. thanks for the inputGaz wrote:Sure, Dumbles have a small cap over the master volume sometimes. That sure is a nice amp you have there. He is not only a legend, he's a nice guy and a true genius badass when it comes to all stuff noisy. A real hero in a jungle of zeros. You can tell he loves his work.

how did he get so much gain in the pt100 and so little noise? The amp is almost dead quite, even on the high gain channel.. When I opened up the pt100 I was very impressed with everything except, the pots. There's these little tiny ( I think 16mm) alpha pots. They work fine but, I was hoping for better (not a biggie). Love to own a suhr guitar someday.Reeltarded wrote:He is not only a legend, he's a nice guy and a true genius badass when it comes to all stuff noisy. A real hero in a jungle of zeros. I have never seen inside one. Look at the interstage attenuation and the PI.
I love cheap assed Alphas. Only modern pot that actually meets spec, and sturdy too! I ran a couple on plates without any failures. Scary.

Oh, I forgot, you guys don't own one, duh.
Bet you could build one. I can't, I'm a hack with this stuff. Thanks for the time.

Regulated DC heater for the 6 12AX7 preamp tubes provide low-noise and increased tube life. This is really a great amp and the service from John Suhr and his staff, is the best.
