Top Boost Single Ended

Post by leadfootdriver »

I'm sure this has been done a bunch, but this one is mine.

It works pretty good, but I'm open to anything better.

Here's the basic schematic, what do you think?

That's a little more than I had in mind! Does it still sound like a Vox?

What's the purpose of putting the 5.6n cap to ground o the master volume?

Maybe a switchable cold stage between the first two gain stages, and the tonestack coupled to the EL34 via a voltage divider plus master volume pot?

Cut Control! Classic Voxy treble cut circuit. Usually 250kA or B and 0.0047uF is standard and I find even 0.0022uF is plenty. Nice to help roll back a little bit of the crispy creme.

You will have less loss with the cathode follower.

Play around with the tone stack and coupling caps to fine tune the tone.

I agree, for a SE amp, simpler is usually better.

Don't let that smoke out!

THanks for the replies guys. I want to use this amp for practice, so I don't want it to be crazy elaborate. I'd really like the last gain stage to resemble the LTP of the AC15/30. Would it be the same if I just built half of it like this?

You can easily omit the Deep, Boost, Mid, and Master Volume controls if you want to keep it closer to a stock TB preamp. I find them all useful.

I think so.
