I'm not going to defend poor choices in workmanship or illogical parts substitution.
But if you've ever done field repairs or had a player leaning over the bench on the way to a gig you sometimes make do with what's immediately available. "Get through the gig and bring it back to fix it right". Stacked cap values and jumpers made from anything that conducts are strictly quick temporary fixes.

Having said that some of those "mods" appear to be inspired by competitive car stereo technique. Way overkill that might even stress neighboring components.

Improvements ? Put it back to stock.

I'd refer that to an authorized service tech. In my neighborhood they pick up on Friday.

If you ever have amps like that come into your hands, I will take them. I've seen some bad ones, but never like that!

On a PCB Fender, that stuff was probably an improvement.

 +1

After working on a Fender Super 60 210 PCB amp, it was most definitely an improvement, or in other words at least it worked. I convinced the owner it would be cheaper if I rebuilt Amp with circuit cards, etc. the old fashioned way. Lift copper traces from the heat, inadequate value resistor went up in smoke and the 6V3 secondary shorted on the PT.

 Being as it's Sunday, I won't type what I really think of PCB Fender, it might make a sailor or two blush. There used to be a Tech on Ebay.com that would gut the Fender Reissues, and rebuild the amp to Black Face Standards with the correct caps, resistors, etc. Can't remember their name, but he had a number of testimonials positive feedback about how the amps were night and day better.

Best Regards,

Steve

PS Selmer and Ampeg used PCB back in the day and the amps didn't go to hell like the Fender stuff.

Hi,

Looks like someone with Audiophile Tube amp experience to me as to the cloth wires.

Best Regards,

That video has made the rounds before.

I find that one guy's high, nasally voice even more irritating than the workmanship on the amp.

I am thinking 'BF' doesn't mean 'black face' in this instance?

Oh dear..lol

I am recording a great single with a really good band today. No amps though. If we were using amps, I would have that one flown in and hope it was damaged in shipping so we could talk about the need not to fix it.

When my post count reaches 2012 on December 21st I am digging a hole to hide in.
