Inoperative Reverb in Vox AC30CC2

My son just bought a used Vox AC30CC2 that seems to be working fine with the exception of the reverb, which doesn't work at all. The amp came without the footswitch. I put a TRS plug in the footswitch jack and tried jumpering both the tip and ring to ground, which didn't cause the reverb to function. I really don't want to get inside this thing. Does anyone know if the proper foot switch might make the reverb function? Thanks in advance.
