Amp ID Please

Post by 24kilo »

Just picked up an AMP, The only marking on the amp is PA92 the Trans has PT92. The output tubes are missing but assume they are el84 in a push pull, Has one 12ax7 one 6au7. It has volume knob and tone knob , it was a module for something else(console ,Tape deck?????). Outputs are 4 ohm 8ohm and 70v. I'm looking for a comparable schematic. I know this a shot in the dark but any help will be better than I have now.. Will try to post pic later this week. TIA

The knobs look just like the knobs that came on my old Knight stereo kit from the late 50's - early 60's. The Knight kits were sold by Radio Shack back in the old days. I'd guess that this is an old mono block, then again, I could be way off. :D

138939 says that you have a Stancor transformer. By the looks of it (the OT, I think), a pretty hefty one at that. This is high quality iron. Too good for a guitar amp. Remove it and send it to me at once and I'll make sure it doesn't ruin your taste for iron.

Seriously, I think you have the makings of a decent EL84 amp. If you want to do a transplant to a bigger chassis (what I would do), the sky is the limit for anything 2x EL84 or 2x 6V6. Change the 6AU7 to a 12AX7. You can probably add a third preamp tube without a problem as you only need .3A for the filaments, but there is no room for it on the existing chassis.

Depending on exactly what OT you have it could auction for as much as $100 on eBait.

It doesn't look like a commercial product or even a kit. Someone made it himself.

I think the only way you can get the schematic for that is sketching one out yourself.
