Tricked by co-ax - bonehead troubleshooting sticky?

Post by xtian »

Can we have a sticky for forehead slappers?

Today I spent nearly two hours trying to find a short to ground somewhere between my input jacks and V1. Turned out the signal wire had shorted to the shield of my coax cable, right at the connection to pin 2. I know this is a common issue; that's why I normally carefully shrinkwrap the shield at the end of the wire. But this was someone else's build that I was troubleshooting.

Yes, it can be tricky troubleshooting someone else's build.

Glad you found it.

I had a 71 Champ on my bench awhile back that had a shorted input coax.

Don't let that smoke out!
