Whats up with the Deluxe Reverb Reissue?

Post by dragonbat13 »

I see all kinds of topics about the DRRI.

What are the Pros and Cons about this amp?

I am not the kind of person who thinks that if it isn't 30 years old it is junk!

Is the DRRI a unforseen jewel?

My dentist doesn't think so, and he's the only guy I know who has one. OTOH, he hasn't sold it either. I have heard it, it's not as bad as the '59 Bassman RI IMO.

I think there is DRRI forum out there somewhere, where you can get the full spectrum of advice and mods from basic stuff like new speaker, OT and tubes, all the way to "it's a nice cabinet, toss everything else, buy a Mojotone chassis and build the real thing yourself".

Sorry, but IMHO none of the RIs, Fender or Marshall can cut it with an original that has been checked over, retubed, recapped etc. Except maybe the handwired ones.

Just build a DR from a Mojotone kit....I say... The DRRIs aren't BAD, but they aren't nearly as cool as a "real" DR. I've played/worked on both, and even the guys that own a DRRI still would prefer the original. An original BF DRs will cost a TON if it is in killer shape, so that's why I say go the route of a kit and do it correctly...and have some rewarding fun in the process. :)
