OK, so I had no idea the production involved in manufacturing tubes.. I'd watched the French fella make a tube in his basement, and it kind of gave me an idea.. but this video really puts things into perspective. I sort of understand why today's tubes aren't quite as great yesteryears tubes. And I also wondered what "tooling" meant when companies say "made on 'so-and-so's' tooling". Does that imply the entire manufacturing operation, or critical/significant portions of it???

There's a part where they drop the tubes in acid and wait for some material to dissolve while other materials are unaffected... whew.

Sorry if this is a repost or if you've seen it before... great explanation on how tubes are made.

This was posted as a historical ditty on the Blackburn Microtech website (to give them some PR cred) before they folded, then it turned up on Utube.

I think it must've been one of those corporate training movies that Mullard made for inducting new employees back in the day. Sure is a shame that they don't make tubes anymore huh?
