I stumbled upon this site: www.designyourowncard.com
If you click the Engraved Signs tab, you can to to a sign builder. They have a very easy editor. It will even do graphics. I ordered one for a new project, kind of as a test, and it turned out really nice. I got the brushed silver. It's aluminum laminated to black plastic.
When you put in your words, pictures, etc., click on the button at the bottom of the screen labeled Add To Cart. This will make your sign appear in an inch-based grid, so you can more precisely locate things. Then just go back to make changes. They are fairly inexpensive. You have to drill your own holes, but that's no biggie. I'll try to post a pic of the one they made for me when I have more time this weekend.

Re: New source for faceplates
I had no luck using the designer. My graphic could not be sized to fit the size of the material (20"X2.5"). I tried setting it to 100% scale with no luck. I could only get the size to about 25% of where it needed to be. I tried a 500dpi 20"x2.5" drawing and a 72dpi X 20"X2.5" drawing. Maybe their system can't handle those dimenisions. I do know that Alumamark, which is what I suspect they are using comes in 20" sizes as that is what I do my faceplates on now.
I have access to a laser to do my faceplates so don't need this service, but it looks like a good alternative to the Kinko's faceplates and the price is not bad at ~ $65 for 2 plates + shipping. I wonder if they accept drawings via eMail?

Re: New source for faceplates
Unfortunately theres no way to precisely place the control labels nor change fonts, etc...too bad with a few minir upgrades that would be easy to do.
