With that 1k bias pot, its hard to work out what the actual tube current is at any given point on the dial. The 10Vdrop across the 1st (100R) supply resistor indicates 100mA current at that point, most of which is presumably going through the 6L6 plate. With the indicated plate and cathode voltages you have and allowing 5mA for the screen, and 1mA for each preamp stage, that would at a rough guestimate by my calcs, make the 6L6GC be running at 31W. Therefore it might be wise to put a 1R 1% resistor (with a test point at end end) in series with the bias pot. JM2CW
these test points are pretty useless imo, since you can always measure the voltage drop across the OT primary. Also i do have a little octal-octal adapter with a 1Ohm resistor installed on which i can measure the cathode current.
the Voltages are just rough Estimates.
the 6l6 will be running at 90% dissipation at about 73mA on those calculations, the preamp draws a little over 5.4mA, 6.2mA for the screen
total current about 84mA. i rounded the Power supply Voltages.
i anticipate the voltages a little higher actually. Since the Powertransformer is not loaded to full rated current. the Voltage after rectification could be around 395 Volts actually, i have to build this modified circuit and measure it first. Higher voltages would be overall very welcome in this design.
what i mostly need now is sensible recommendations for a speaker, 1x12" open back combo. want a nice full and balanced sound. should do the very high gain good as well as nice cleans.
G12H30 maybe ? the Greenback would probably be too in your face mid bite. same probably goes for the Vintage 30. maybe an Eminence Wizard or Private Jack would work too,.. or a WGS Reaper or Retro,.. i don't have much experience with all of those and would love to hear some input
