I have those same Event monitors, they are great bang for the buck.

I agree, excellent value for the money! They have helped improve my mixes tremendously.

Like others have said, you could go with a USB type 2-channel mic pre. I'm almost positive that most of them would come with a recording program to get you in the game.

An SM57 is a durable mic that gets good sounds without a lot of hassle.
