Is there much in these two recs apart from heater voltages?
Im getting my parts together for my AC10 which uses a EZ81. I did my AC15/zwreck half power using a 5Y3 and love the results.
BUT i really really dig on the AC10 vibe and dont wanna mess with it too much.

Well quickly looking at the plate characteristics, the 5Y3 has a plate resistance of around 500 ohms, and the EZ81 about 150 ohms.
This means that the 5Y3 will sag and compress more with changing currents, and the EZ81 less.

Man I just burned out another 6X4 rectifier so now I better order more and and figure out the what is causing the overloading in a Silvertone 1482.
Not sure about which would be better the 5Y3 or EZ81 for your situation.

Different bases obviously, but more importantly different construction types.
2A directly heated cathode vs a 1A indirectly heated isolated cathode.
I'm not aware of any directly heated cathode 9 pin based rectos.
So it boils down to base selection, 9pin vs octal.
In 9 pin there's not as much selection; 6V4, 6CA4, EZ80 and EZ81.
Do we know how much current this circuit pulls ?

It's 6X4 still "works" but has some dark spots and shows a noticeable hot spot on the cathode during testing.
(I may have exceeded limits ...)
You might consider 6BX4 or 6AV4/EZ91 for slightly higher current rating.

You might consider 6BX4 or 6AV4/EZ91 for slightly higher current rating. RD
I soldered in diodes instead. The original can cap had been replaced by some wimpy radial caps so I built a cap board and used existing chassis holes to mount the board. I will note voltages and adjust dropping string accordingly.
Replaced the two wire power cord for three prong too.
