Help with Mesa Boogie Maverick tube replacement

Post by johnjaypl »

I seem to have a microphonic tube in my Maverick's lead channel. The preamp tubes are under a metal cover that seems to be held in place with some plastic fastners. Does anyone know how to take the metal cover off?

Thanks,

John

have you tried pushing the metal caps down and turning?

do you have a picture of them?

My Maverick doesn't have metal caps on each tube. Instead there's a
metal channel that covers all the preamp tubes. The channel seems to be
held on with plastic fastners. Since it's old and plastic doesn't fair well in
hot places over time I'm hoping someone will know the proper way to
release them so I don't break them.

a couple of options.

Take the chassis out and use needle nose pliers to squeeze the clip together as you pull the cover off.

slide a flat head screw driver under the cover and gently work it off.

or Send it back to mesa to have them tube it which was the goal in the design they break them and install new clips. They keep you in the Mesa family.

second option even if you break them you can A: buy new clips at Ace. B: replace them with screws or bolts.

It does seem that they had that goal when they built my amp. They even have a label on the preamp tube cover saying that there is no user serviceable parts - give me a break. They seemed to have changed their tune over the years, I just watched a video where they say they hate it (or something like that) when a customer sends back an amp that just needs a new tube. They now encourage customer tube replacement.

I'll give them a call on Monday and I think they'll help me get the cover off - it will be very sad if I need to take the chassis out to change a tube!

Actually I tried calling them on Friday but they only work Mon through Thrusday - that can't be good.
