Trying to match an oddball tolex...

Post by Tonegeek »

Anybody know where Earcandy gets the material they cover their cabs with? I have one of their Boa cabs in orange (sort of carrot or pumpkin color) and want to cover my head cab with the same stuff. Earcandy will not sell me any raw covering and will not disclose where they buy their's either. They appear to use some type of automotive vinyl, not the normal textured stuff you see on most amps. This stuff is a bit spongy and smooth, but does have a slight texture to it. It is slightly darker in color than the orange elephant stuff you see a lot or I would just use that. I am busy checking with local auto restorers, but have had no luck so far locating a suitable match.
Thanks

What about a marine vinyl? I found some at Fabric Depot (a local fabric shop, full of sweet old crafty ladies...) that is similar, and ended up using a "fawn-ish" version for my amp. It is about three times the thickness of standard tolex...which sounds like your orange stuff...
