I built this amp to push 600w 2x12 EVM 12L super cabs with Black label speakers. My concept is to consolidate large 4x12 touring rigs into a single High power 2x12 cab and head. My goal was to marry a SLO/JCM800 with a Hiwatt 201 to give the ultimate QR:Operation Mindcrime Rock tone, to a Zakk Wylde Balls to the wall Arena Concert tone, and then a crisp Clean Blackface Jazz tone all within only 2 channels.

Unlike most guitar amp builds I use hi-end Audiophile grade components, Pure Silver Audio wiring, Military Spec, Plitron Toroidal power transformers, and O'netics High Definition Output transformers. This makes the amp stay very tight and focused with a tight bottom end, awesome string to string definition, and crystal clear clean channel.

My second amp is the same specs but has a Sweet Vintage British tone thanks to 6x KT-77 power tubes..

200w Dynamo GTS (Grand Touring Series)

Those are some powerful good sounding amps. It appears to be more than a JCM800 2203 to the next level though.

You really packed some nice features into the amp and high end components.

I'm curious why so much power for a touring series amp?

With the current technology of Line arrays and professional touring PA systems the need for loud stage volume is little to none. 80% of the artists use IEM's (in ear monitors) to remove stage volume and clean up the mix for both them and FOH. Running low wattage amps in ISO-cabs off stage and using empty cabinets on stage for the Rock and Roll backline image.

Even in a studio enviroment it's hard to push a 200 watt amp to full power and not damage or exceed the SPL limits of the microphone.

With such a high output wattage the amp is pretty much limited to only preamp distortion.

I can see the advantage of not having to replace the output tubes very often as in most cases they will be sitting in idol with very little stress.

I can see the continued use of 100w amps for touring but 150-200 watts is a bit too much I would think.

Even with ear buds and miking I would want the amp pushing and a 100 watter just seems to get that mid range and low punch.

Funny I just find it wasteful. And expensive to tube.

30watts will cut over a traditional drummer
60watts over a metal drummer
100watts though it can give the feel of more freq response or headroom it's almost never run full out without some sort of power attenuator absorbing the bulk of the wattage.

If it was still the 60's then yes 200-300watts multiple amps and stacks of cabinets would be needed just to get heard 30 rows back over the hord of screaming girls.

I think that's true for pro live sound. I don't carry a full PA to local bar type gigs. We use the stage sound to fill the room and the PA is really only used for vocals.

In either case, I am not using a cranked 100W or more amp.

I would image the amp would be frustrating to use in a bar type situation the volume knob would be so low it might not even be on "1". I have a Model T that is like that. It's stupid loud and almost impossible to use because "1" is to loud and anything less is muddy and unclear. and it goes up to "10" even with tubes pulled it's stupid loud.

I was speaking in terms of a Pro Tour setup since the amp is a tour series model. I think it has some cool features and is probably a very well built amp but the over the top power section really limits it's practical use in the real world. even playing sold out arena's It's more of a gimic then a solution or benefit.

I guess you could use it as a bass amp? depending on the frequency response and how the circuit is designed to feed each stage.

Just like my TW Express I have never used that loud amp for a bar gig ever just to darn hard to use.

I have used 18w, 30w, 50w and 100w for bar gigs and it depends on the song which amp I use. If I want to rock out it will definitely need to be 50w or more. Alway use two amps into 412. We don't use the PA for the guitars only for vocal. The drummer demands that we mike his kick otherwise nothing else into the PA.

come on, one of us should buy one and post gut shots reverse engineer it and post mods and improvements on the circuit. then when those mod's are used in the design we take legal action and own the company lol. isn't America Great!
