whirly bird!
mock up of my recycled baldwin organ...now to figure out a speed control. Any ideas?

Re: whirly bird!
is it AC voltage that determines the motor speed?
You could use a dimmer.

Re: whirly bird!
If it's an AC induction motor, lowering the voltage will only make it draw more current until it stalls - or burns out.
Re: whirly bird!
hmm...since a Leslie is two speed, that kind of infers two coils or one long one with a tap.
Re: whirly bird!
yes just basic fast slow it's a toggle switch between a two speed motor on some models other models have multiple motors for both the speaker and the horn.
maybe this will help?

Have you thought about the motor from a ceiling fan?

You may also be able to make it adjustable by bleeding DC voltage onto the motors coil. This would act as a brake allowing you to variably slow down the motor.
The ceiling fan might be cool it would give you an off - hi - mid - low and some models offer reverse. a switch that slips the AC polarity inside the motor housing. A feature you could easily add to any motor.

I have been squirrling away the parts to build one of these and had the thought of using a fan speed control. I'll keep an eye on this to get some insight , thanks.

Umm.. it's a 2 speed motor? Just do it the way it's done. A one button switch, and a relay? So simple, even a caveman could do it.. as long as he isn't a moron.
Me? I couldn't do it.

Re: whirly bird!
most models used seperate motors both motors idiol at all times until enguaged by a relay triggered by the toggle.
