Ceriatone badcat hotcat30/straycat half power

These guys have a half power switch on a pair of EL34's.
It looks like it switches the screen supply between the choke return and the plate supply. Ive not seen this, can someone explain what gos on? Does it sound ok?

That would be running the output tubes "triode connected" by tying the screens to the plates (through the screen resistors). It does reduce the power, but changes the tone too. Some like it, and some don't.
