Footswitch & Bypass for Herzog

Post by The New Steve H »

I have all of my Herzog parts now, except for the inevitable thick aluminum chassis. I know I got hollered at for using aluminum channel last time, but this is a really small amp, and it will look cool, and it won't be much trouble. I swear.

I hope.

Here's a question. When it's working right, using a footswitch, will this thing cut in and out instantly, like a modern pedal? And will it bypass? I would like to put it in the chain with my other pedals, but I can't do that if hitting the footswitch to shut down the Herzog kills the signal to the other pedals.

I don't understand the footswitch part of the schematic. There is a box labeled "relay coil," with two arrows pointing down to it, like diodes, but I don't know what kind of relay it is or what those arrows actually are or where they hook up. I have Googled footswitch relays, trying to find out what this component is, but I have had no luck.

It looks like the relay chooses between two contacts, and one sends the signal to the preamp, while the other shoots it to the output in bypass mode. Is that accurate?

Also, there is a little arrow to the right of the relay coil that points straight up and goes nowhere. What on earth does that mean?

Relax. It's SUPPOSED to smoke a little.
