Anyone have the time and skills to help me troubleshoot a problem I am having with my JMI Top Boost/Reverb Unit?
The power switch was intermittent, getting stuck on at times. Now it won't work. It was also noisy when connected to amps and I tried lifting ground, different outlets, noise eliminators, etc. and nothing reduced the hum.
Might need new fuse, tubes, rca cables or reverb tank, not sure what else I would try. Nothing looks fried, no pops or funny noises or burnt smells at any point.
I hate to take it to a tech who will charge me a ridiculous bench fee and then have it turn out to be something stupid that costs $2.
Anyone in Seattle I can turn to?
Thanks!

Re: Seattle amp help?
You could start by just replacing the switch and see where that gets you.
Re: Seattle amp help?
Good advice, thanks.
Tempted to do it myself, but don't want to get zapped and die. Might need to round up someone who works on tube amps to get it done, which is what I am looking for here.

replace the following
pwr switch
fuse
filter caps
test amp...
if sound is weak replace tubes.
good as new.

Re: Seattle amp help?
He just said he said he didn't want to get "zapped," so I don't think he's willing to do a cap job...
Re: Seattle amp help?
It was built in 2009, don't think it needs a cap job.
Probably needs just the power switch replaced. Then I need to figure out what is making it hum. I probably need to try different tubes too to see if a tube is bad and causing the hum.
I'm in Seattle and can't travel much beyond (thanks for the nice messages from people in WA State offering to help, but I am needing to stay local to get it fixed).
I have an e-mail in to JMI to see if I can get teh switch part #.

Re: Seattle amp help?
you shouldn't need to order a factory part the switch should be a standard diameter. is it a toggle? SPDT or DPDT? i don't have the schematic in front of me.
If you can't find somebody to work on the amp localy \call soldano they do repairs also try studio x they can refer you to a tech. I'll be on widbey island in 3 weeks if you want to bring the amp out to goss lake.
