Not sure but if it is 50's cable then it would most likely have the metal braid on the outside like the early Gibson Humbuckers did.

Be interesting to know the amps history.

smartalek. Good thinkin Tommy. I dunno when that changed actually, but the old broadcast transmitters from the fifties were all exposed braid.

It's not a one-off. I have the same amp with the same logo, cab, etc. I refer all of my amps to guys (like you folks) who know what they are doing (a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing when it comes to electrical stuff), so I'm probably not able to answer any tech questions beyond basic stuff...Here's link to a thread I just posted on the Gretsch Discussion Pages trying to find out info about the amp I just picked up w/ pics...Obviously some of my assumtions about the origin of this amp were a bit off A facebook friend sent me here as he found this thread.

Perhaps someone made a small run of these for sale in a cottage industry kind of way. Is it possible that these were built as accordion amps? I saw one reference to Milwaukee, so that's the right part of the country for that.

I'm wondering about all the dual pots. Looks like the elements may be paralleled to reduce the value, possibly as an adaptation of surplus parts. Note the jacks on the one at the Gretsch site are Switchcraft... maybe the supply of telephone jacks dried up.

@ Mr. Manning- That's kind of what I was thinking (as did the tech who worked on the amp). The pots on mine (in the Gretsch thread) date to 1961 CTS. I would think it to be a bit odd to use Field coil speakers in 1961, but the amp at the beginning this thread seems to have pretty much the same configuration. The wacky tone controls seem to lead me to an amp that was designed for more of a hi-fi sound as one would want for an amplified accordion. None of the input jacks on mine say "switchcraft"- they are stamped "Kelcon Japan" (maybe that's the same thing?).

I was going to amend my post to say "Switchcraft style," since I couldn't tell for sure. Are the lugs on the dual pots tied together? It looks as if all three upper terminals are bent down to the lower ones.

The posts on the each pot are connected with jumper wires to the post on the bottom pot (not sure if that's the info you are after).

Yes, that was my guess, that the two separate elements were connected together in parallel. That would make a dual 1 Meg control into a single 500k, for example. The builder was making use of what he had or was readily available.
