From a building stand-point, do Two Rock Amps......

Post by bassman333 »

have the craftsmanship and parts (transformers, caps, ec) that corresponds with the hefty (5000 and up) price tag?

By all accounts, they are somewhat of an industry standard as far as boutique of the boutique builders go. Just want to see if fellow builders and such think they're "all that" from a technical stand point, or they're simply put....over priced.

Parts wise you gotta figure 1000-1500 per amp. With surplus the parts get even cheaper for them. For amps like the Overdrive Signature (Like a Dumble Overdrive Reverb but with a non loading Reverb) and the Custom Clean (Steel String Singer clone) the parts get more expensive etc.

In a nutshell Two Rock charges a couple thousand $ for there craftsmanship. I've heard consistent great sounding amps from them. I think there prices are a bit outlandish but they are quality amps and they do set an example as far as a boutique standard. Now with the Builders guild owning them now prices are expected to drop but who knows if that will effect quality in the long run.

HI,

did you see the price for the Effects Loop Interface 1 and 2?

$1600 ELI 1 (mono)/$2000 ELI 2(stereo)!!!

When you look at the pictures it very looks like our all known D-Lator and we all know what the value for the parts is and the craftsmanship is already done.

I think this is beyond "outlandish" ;-)

I agree about the price on the Eli's that's B%*@%#!! The parts are only about 2-$300, I think TR stopped making them because they're too much. No one is going to spend that kind of money unless Howard Dumble makes you breakfast in the morning himself.

TR has quite the following though...

It'll be interesting to see how the attachment with Premier Builder's Guild works out for TR. PBG sounds like "Suits-r-Us" to me. Fender followed a similar model, turning the sales and marketing over to someone who knew how to do that, but he retained ownership of the company. I wonder how much control K&M had to give up?

IMHO that "craftmanship" is worth about 2 grand. so $1200 in parts + 2000 craftmanship = $3200. Anyone who can justify spending over 5 grand for an amp like that has money to burn.

They are only worth what people are prepeared to pay... there are some might rich people in the world. Problem is most of us builders live in the real world.

DIY amp builders.. we do it for less :)

I have one of the Custom prototypes and it is unreal in terms of overdrive tone. Built in dumbelator that's never quite out of the loop. NOS tubes probably help. Given that it's a prototype, the build quality is solid, but not neat. Even the goop is, well, goopy.

But 4-5k for even a special build? Not for me.
