Speaker magnet covers
I discovered a new (to me) way to have unwanted vibration in an amp today. My son was flogging my 5e3 taday and I noticed a buzz on certain frequencies. I found if I grabbbed the magnet cover really firmly it went away. So...I removed the cover. This speaker had its cover held on with 4 little tabs that fit into little slots on the basket. Honestly, I don't see how it couldn't have some sort of vibration issues. Don't get me wrong this speaker sounds real nice, I was just wondering if anyone has experienced this same issue.

Re: Speaker magnet covers
That's one reason I no longer include bell covers on my Scumnicos. They never did fit right, and rattled. PITA, but vibration always shakes those things loose.

Thanks for the reply Jim. I wasn't too concerned about it. Mostly cosmetics I suppose. I hope to try some of your speakers soon. I want to do up a 4X12 for my Trainwreck clone.

Most like the M75 with the Wreck Express, I know they sound awesome with my AM Koncorde clone. An M75/J75 mix sounded great in a 4x12 earlier today, though, too. Just a matter of what flavor works for you.
I'll know for sure Thursday, since I have one of Allyn's Express clones
arriving here tomorrow. However, testing will take awhile. Since these pics
were taken, six more cabs, correction...seven (a new one arrived today) have
been loaded into my demo room (still under construction). So if I don't get
back to you Thursday, email me.

Thanks!
Heh, wait till I update the pics later this week. I hauled the rest out of my house to the demo room. I've got five I'm bringing back from Tone Merchants after NAMM, there's one more due to arrive next week, and with the one that arrived today, currently there are 20 4x12's, three 1x12's, a 2x12, and some combos in there.
With the contractors now out of there for doing cable TV, and bathroom remodeling, there's now a couch that reclines or flattens out to a bed, a refrigerator, recliner, and a coffee table. I've yet to put in the home theater system (still in boxes from the move in September) in and hook it up, and the TV has a wall mount (currently sitting on the slant TV cab).
I'm putting some thin wheat colored carpet on the walls and ceilings, then finalizing the room, but this is all I could get done in time for NAMM visitors (I'm 18 miles from Anaheim) to see.
It'll be another month before it's all finished, trust me I'm looking forward to it, it's been a long haul since we started in August, at a cost of $22k...so far.

San Diego is 130 miles, Fallbrook is around 100. You'd need to schedule a visit around LA traffic for sure!M Fowler wrote:Hmm, Anaheim huh I get out to San Diego and Fallbrook about once a year I might have to head up I-5 for a visit some time! Re: Speaker magnet covers
Aw man,
I was just out in the Costa Mesa, San Juan Capistrano area a couple of weeks ago. I was visiting family after Christmas, and I wanted to get over to Tone Merchants and a few other places of musical interest. Didn't get it done. I'm going to be in San Diego in early April. I might make my trip last a couple extra days.

Yeah I've driven that road many times in and out of traffic jams.
Funny when I was younger I had more patience or maybe because I always had beer with me!

Re: Speaker magnet covers
My Canadian EMC 10" is ceramic with a bell, the bell I believe was usually to protect the alnico magnet from getting a deadly whack, but in this case it's aesthetic only. I like the bell, a reminder of when US/Western manufacturing respected their customers, and themselves, and went that little extra to make things nicer than necessary. It's also shows some forethought as to rattles, it has a gasket on the lip of the bell and screws into the magnet where you can easily re-tighten the screw, or just remove the bell. Cover's are ok if well designed. But, yeah, on a gigging amp I's just as soon not have them.
I'm on my way to the distributor now!
