Super Connie 30 transformer questions.

Post by arwokc »

Back to building my Super Connie 30 which utilizes four EL84 output tubes and solid state rectifier. Not sure which PT secondaries voltage leads to use and not sure which OT secondary leads to use. The pictures I have of the original amp has the a brown and a blue OT transformer lead going to the middle pair of output tubes and then a jumper from each going the their respective outer tubes. Opinions appreciated.

The lower left schematic represents my power transformer.

Super Connie 30 = Liverpool?

If so are you following the Liverpool schematic and layout?

Double check.................... but I think:

Green yellow = 260V= secondaries
Browns = 6.3v = heaters
Yellows = 300v= tie off for a Liverpool
Greys = 5v = tie off for a Liverpool

OT as above is correct, photos show how I did Liverpool.

Super Connie 30 = Komet Constellation type amp ;)

The OT has two sets of secondaries and a center tap. Which set of secondaries isn't being used? The inner two or the outer two? The Constellation doesn't have a secondary lead to each output tube, it has a brown lead going to one center tube and a blue lead going to the other center tube. Then they jumper from the pin on each center tube to the same pin on the respective outer tube. This would imply that I would only use one set of secondary leads from the OT. My first impression is to use the blue lead to one of the center tubes, the blue/white lead to other center tube and then jumper to the other tubes like the original amp shows. But seeing another set of green & green/white secondary leads made me start second guessing myself. I was just hoping for some clarity. I also wasn't sure on the PT if I should use the 260v or the 300v to the S/S rectifier. It seems like on my 18 watter I used the 260v, but not sure about a 30 watter using 4 EL84's. The first one of these I built about three years ago, I used Mercury Magnetics transformers that were Andy-proof! Only one set of secondaries to choose from! LOL! Any ideas?

Thanks,

Andy

Andy

I responded with info regrading the Liverpool, I'm not sure what the wiring is on the Komets, disregard my previous post. Look for the posts on the Asteroid, on those threads you'll find some heavy hitters who will know the wiring. The Komet stuff is kept pretty quiet because these are production amps.

Good luck

Eric
