Reducing hum in new build

Post by jcat5503 »

A recent build I just finished has a little bit too much hum for me. I'm not sure if i made my leads too long, or if it was lack of proper lead dress or what.

I gutted a valve junior chassis and built a single channel ef86 18 watt amp out of it

Pretty cramped built I must say! Especially since I used a choke and a tube rectifier as well (ez81)

I had to create a center tap for the heater winding due to the fact that the PT I used didn't have one. This could cause hum?

Anyone experimented with DC on heaters? I've heard there is a benefit to this

Any help on reducing hum?

Cheers!

DC can help lower hum.

Try moving you lead dressing around with a chopstick and see if the noise floor goes down.

is it a 60hz or 120hz hum?

ground loop?

tubes?

cold solder joint?

pics?
