I was reading something by Bill Lawrence regarding aluminum plates instead of copper under a tele pickup, and what he was saying led me to think about aluminum as a amp chassis and whether it might change to tone a lot more then has been said in the usual discussions i've seem in amp forums. I've built 4 amps, 3 aluminum and one steel and the aluminums all had a very different sound than the steel in a very obvious way, and all of them have been modded extensively morphing from typical marshall circuits to very different and back again, yet the basic character difference between that steel one and the others is the steel has a much clearer articulate sound, while the aluminums have a blanketed sort of sound. Sorta like a rosewood neck strat compared to a maple neck tele. It's always there and never changes no matter what i do to the amps, even swapping trannys and other major changes in trying to make one sound like the other in respect to that difference i described. I can't help but wonder whether aluminum is the reason. Have a quick read and tell me what you think.

Re: Aluminum chassis
By chance was the steel chassis a 4 output tube amp ??
I have found that 4 output tubes vs 2 affect the tone more than the chassis or other components. 4 tubes are faster and more articulate in my experience.

Re: Aluminum chassis
Apparent Gm is doubled, plate R is halved, making the amp more responsive.4 tubes are faster and more articulate in my experience.
Ditto for every stage : a 5751 with // sections will show the same gain as a single 12AX7 section with nearly twice the transconductance...

Nope, all were 2.
