Four position light switch/dimmer.

It appears to be a three position switch with a tapped inductor.

The blue wire connects to the switch common.

Since there are only four switch terminals, the off position probably does not have a terminal.

Given that that is the case, the white wire connects to the next to fully CCW position of the switch which is probably the "High" position. It appears to connect to one wire of the inductor.

The "Medium" switch position selects the black wire which appears to be the center tap of the inductor.

The "Low" switch position selects the second white wire from the inductor which is the far tap from the common.

The inductor is most likely used as a buck autotransformer.

Given the size of the inductor, it is probably in the milihenry range.


Now, what it is useful for is another matter.

Could be a ceiling fan speed control.
