Coupling Caps

Post by C Moore »

I do not think the world needs another heated discussion about caps and tone. I just thought this link had some interesting ideas/comments.
I have always been amused by the guys who say, "buy some different caps and try it for yourself." I thought that was one of the problems, knowing what cap you were listening to and how much you paid for it.
Anyway....the two links below may have some interest.

Yeah cap choice can open a big can of worms.
No doubt that they influence tone and I believe you can spend as much as you desire on high end caps.

Luckily with Lo Fi guitar amps we don't get too caught up in the hyperbole.

Just to demonstrate how far the Hi Fi crowd will go, this guy talks about a few different USB converters that hook up to his notebook computer as a file server for music.
I believe he is using MP3's but still spends many many dollars on components that supposedly make it sound better.

Actually if you look at the screenshot, he's running 1411kbps, which is CD audio quality.

Not that CD audio is that great, it's basically the top end of digital audio circa 1980!

...but I've found that ultra-good hi-fi caps kind of suck in guitar amps. No character.
Life is a tale told by an idiot -- full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

...in other words: rock and roll!
