Help: No sound/ Problem Resolved

Post by Decko »

Hi,

I bought this Crate BVH120 watt amp and cabinet for 100 bucks. Good price so I said what the heck.

The amp was functioning at both channels but as the amp warmed up there was a continuous ticking sound at regular intervals. Finally the amp just quit. So I thought it must be the transformer which I replaced. But still no sound from the cabinet...absolutely no reaction from the speaker as I turn up the volume. I check all the fuses, all the tubes are fine. I can here some sound but it seems like it is vibrating at the OT or the tubes?

That said where is the best place to start as I commence the trouble shooting?

That was quick.

I would have had that amp spread from here (the garage) to the back bedroom by now!

About 90 feet.

:)

Good job.

Hi, If your are having a problem with your amp, usually it will be something easy to fix. Always check the basics, check guitar & lead then the fuses, then the tubes, then the speaker, speaker lead, if you don't find anything then open the amp up drain the caps," if you don't know how to drain caps never open a amp up, you could get hurt real quick" look for a broken connection, or if something looks burned. If you don't find anything then it is time to check if you have power going right through the amp. Always take your time, and keep a cool head.

If you are not sure always ask for help.

Hope this helps :)
