On the 6L6 and 6V6 pin 1 isn't used so you can use it as a terminal. Good call.Structo wrote:You can solder the resistor from pin 1 to pin 5 and connect the wires from the phase inverter to pin 1.
6V6 and 6L6 have the same pinout.

Congrats on the amp and welcome. I'm seriously thinking of building a clone of that amp. I saved your pic for future reference.
Oh and I totally agree. Lots of very friendly people that don't mind sharing their collective vast knowledge.

It does sound good. It would be nice to know the settings on the McCarty too. Straight humbucker I'm guessing.
One section with a lot of lows on the second clip sounds like BAD speaker breakup. Have you thought about putting a Emenence Legend 10" in it. Awsum speaker.
I'm supposed to squeeze one into a friends Champion 200 box. That leaves me a chassis 15.25 inches wide. I think I can do it. No tremolo though. I gotta find a short pan and transformer for the reverb too or he's getting a loop and a picoverb. I'm wondering too about EL-84 instead of 6V6s. The usual way of dropping input voltage to the power tubes is with a bias and tail change on the Schmidt type PI. No can do with this amp. Gotta drop voltage to the pre tubes across the board, or just kill it with a grid leak. But I never like that sound. The princeton really is nice. Gibson built the GA-17 and GA-19 along the same lines but not even close to that tone.
Good job
Dan

Dan, if you need a chassis for the Champion, Allen Amps' mini chassis is the right width. Don't know if the rest of the dimensions will be right. Nice size for a small amp build, though.

You're on the wrong forum man !!!
Maybe it is just me, but I though those Jimmy Page riffs/your playing was greatl.....Good Heavens that is a beautiful tune, the way you played it.
Do you feel like talking a little bit about the guitar, mic, the recording in general, etc. etc. Maybe it is just the Oxycodone kicking in, or the time of the day, but I thought your playing was timely. Anyway......
Nice job with the wires, caps, resistors and soldering iron....
Good Luck

After testing with a partscaster, I decided to go ahead and mod my PRS.skyboltone wrote:It does sound good. It would be nice to know the settings on the McCarty too. Straight humbucker I'm guessing.

I've got a 500pF silver mica bypass on the Volume and I found an old bumblebee sprague .022 cap to put on the tone. I'm getting buried with this guitar, so I don't care about not leaving it stock. I'm tending to use the middle position just because this amp sounds good there.
Interesting you note the speaker sound. I'm using an Airbrake (combo unit) cranked to the max. My ears can't take the high volume anymore.
Could also be the mic. It's right on the speaker. I'm still playing around with mic setups, hard to really capture what I'm hearing in the room--it lacks dimension.

Hey! Good on you Bear. I'll noodle that up and see if it will work. Looks like a possible.Bear wrote:Dan, if you need a chassis for the Champion, Allen Amps' mini chassis is the right width. Don't know if the rest of the dimensions will be right. Nice size for a small amp build, though.
