This amp had 2 different style of power tube wiring triode/pentode and single ended vs push pull, two hammond output transformers, and plenty of hum and motor-boating, lots of parts flying in space, scary shit....
Andy - was that the after picture?
seriously, at least the one in your picture had heater wires good enough for the pre's - some use what looks like 28 gauge even for the output tubes.
No Henry, but this is .
Actually, a tolerable setup, although we've done prettier Bassmans....

Clever, a hybrid control panel ! lol. Looks sweet. Yeah, I've pretty much lost patience for any "peeks and tweaks", it's gut and rebuild, or take it someplace else.....must be old age.
Henry I got my Super Reverb to look just like your photos. NOT.
But I did replace all the CC resistors which helped but still needs some more work. Thinking about redoing the relay board and find a permanent spot for that and perhaps reroute some of the shielded wires, no noise but one person noted tone suck? So I am poking around some more. I decided that must be a damn good reason for harshness.
Filter caps replaced in 2000 and they are IC so I am going to go there next. Man I am blessed to have so much fun.
holy!..........................................speechless.I had a guy mod a Bassman years ago when I new nothing about amps, same shight.I ended up gutting it and building it back into a ab165 bassman. It is an amp I'll never part with.the tone is superb.I used nothing but the best of the best. This is your chance to do the same.Something I've learned along the way "less is more"is wear it's at.
That is a tremendous job you've done heisthl! It must sound pretty champion now with it's new boots and panties.
This thread had me laughing out loud! I too came to amp building by way of Mr. Torres. I would buy a little amp project from his shop in San Mateo and within a few hours be pretty disgusted with the results. Kind of like getting gypped on a shoddy magic trick when you were a nipper.
As several have said, it was a good lesson in what not to do.
I guess I never saw the insides of his amps or I have a much different skill set informing my observations these days because any self respecting tinkerer would have a tough time apologizing enough for construction that poor. I would crack wise about him maybe barfing that amp together but I understand he suffers from a debilitating digestive condition and I'm far and above behavior so appalling and apathetic.
"Thanks Dan" but bear witness to the work heisthl displays and know your product is deemed by many to be not worthy.

What part of the circuit is that with the SS components ? Looks like it is near the phase inverter, with an IC chip and (looks like) two transistors. What does that part of the amp do?
Thanks
I think that even a person that knows absolutely nothing about electronics would have to say that looks like a bunch of hay wire as my late father used to say.
Or maybe spaghetti.
What's with all the components hanging in mid air and power resistors with black electrical tape around them?
