Recession Build

Post by dreric »

I am struggling with my urge to start a Dumble build and the sour economy. (really ready for folks to get their jobs back). So rather than dropping a chunk of change I don't have I'd like to do a build based on the parts I have on hand (as much as possible)

I have:

twin reverb chassis
bass man 100 out put transformers
Reverb transformer (standard fender)
Cabinet
most of the caps, resistors etc.

** I'd like to end up with a ODS with reverb**

I'd like to ask the board what they would build starting with these parts?

Thanks in advance for your time.

I really like the 90's style HRM amps. You'd need the PT and all of the resistors/caps/pots/diodes. The largest expenses are covered. The Bassman OT should sound great.

Please talk about the benefits of the Bassman 100 OT. It seems like big time headroom.

I think the ODS-101, adding in the normster style 1 tube reverb would do ya well.

I like to draw an exact layout, then bin up every single part that will be needed for the build in egg cratons. It allows me to see any missing items, work out substitutions, and whatnot. Then you can assess exactly what you need, plus when you start building everything is already on hand and sorted.

You can get a decent new PT for about 75$ shipped in the US. The bassman OT will kick butt, thats the right part for the job at hand. If thats a bit too much, and you have those mad salvage skills, finding an old hammond tone cab would likely supply a PT rated for at least 50watts. They can be had for free, such as a DR-20.

talbany and all,

Thanks for your input!

I'm liking the 6V6 ODS for a couple of reasons. First it's such a nice layout picture, although I can never seem to get them to print bigger than a half page (any trick to this?).

The other reason is that I have some fender power transformers from 70's two 6L6 amps (I have a sh*t load of them, seriously it's a problem). I'm thinking I could use one of these and not have to buy a twin transformer??

Is there a schematic for the 6V6 ODS available???

Are their board dimensions / drill guide available??

Thanks for the input!

I afraid that I don't have any of those programs. I may be able to get photoshop or visio easy enough, would that allow me to manipulate the JPEG etc. ?

If you have an HP inkjet printer you can go into the settings and choose poster printing.
This is what I do.
It prints the image on four sheets of paper.
I cut them on the lines that are printed then tape them together for a poster sized layout.

thats good for a 50watt build, dual 6l6 or quad 6v6. The quad 6v6 is one of my favorites.

Tony

Thanks for the board templates! Can I keep a running tab on "beers owed"?

I'd ask how did you do that?, taken from the original somehow and if it takes visio of photoshop could you do it for the relay, FET and power supply???

Thanks

I've rooting through my old transformers to try an find something on hand that will suit this build.

I came up with a old fender thing that I can't quit figure out. This build is leaning towards being some sort of 124 build. The transformer has the windings I want

2 Green: Heaters
3 Red: HV and center tap
2 Brown: Bias

But................. the primary coil has three leads, black, black/green and black/yellow

When I bring it up on the variac black + black/green or yellow, get to 120v on the primary then all the secondary voltages are half of what I'd expect

2 Green: Heaters = 3.2v
3 Red: HV and center tap = 180v
2 Brown: Bias = 30v

When I attach black/green and black/yellow it draws a lot of current and blows the fuse on my test bed at about 60v going in the primary??? (thinking than it's a 120 / 240 primary?)

It looks like a twin export normal size except 2" taller.

I'm at a loss with this one, have looked through fender schematic fir two days and can't find:

0021032
EIA 606-431

Called schmacher and was told that transformers schematics are proprietary and that fender still owns this one! Fender doesn't seem to have anyone on staff that knows much other than current manufacture data.

HELP!!!!
