Re: altec 417 speakers
Early OEM version of the 417. Same as the more usual 417-8x but with a 16-ohm voice coil.just bought a couple of blown altec 417 speakers on ebay and I need to find out the model number before I can get a recone kit.
anybody have any idea which these are ?
Reconing them is half the story : the speakers should be fully checked and the Alnico magnets recharged.
Great Plains Audio, a company created by Altec alumni. Their recone kits are by far the best available today.and where I might get the right recone kit ?

You should be able to recone in either ohmage. You could call A Brown Soun (Tone Tubby) to get good info. tel 415.479.2124
