Hey guys.
It's been a while since I've posted around here and I haven't finished an amp some time (three years between builds), but I've been itching to accomplish something and am returning to past projects.
Here's the Q: what circuit would you guys recommend to get the woody/syrupy strat neck or neck+middle pu tones like JM? Would you go with high or low plate, classic/skyliner/bluesmaster tonestack?
Any suggestions are much appreciated.

You need to be a bit more specific.
Do you want a 100 watt amp or a 50 watt amp?
Remember that you don't gain that much volume (SPL) by going the 100 watt route but they offer a beefier and deeper tonal pallet.
But the 100 will also be more expensive to maintain tube wise.
The D amps have a very good master volume circuit so you can tame the decibels to bedroom levels that sound good.
I keep reading that John Mayer is a big influence on the younger players.
That's fine. I personally don't care for him but that's beside the point.
I built a Brown Note D'Lite 44 amp kit. (2 x 6L6)
I decided early on that I wanted 6L6's in this amp so I built it around that idea.
It has turned out to be a great amp and one I will probably never sell.
I run it through a 2 x 12 open back cab with two EVM 12L Classic speakers which are the best I've heard my amp play through.
This amp can get very, very loud.
I'm not real sure which Dumble(s) John Mayer has but most likely they are of the Skyliner type tone stack which is mostly about the mids anyway.
I suppose it depends on your actual budget and what you are willing to spend will determine what amp you build.
#124 is probably the most documented amp here and several guys have built that.
Do you want to scratch build an amp or build a kit.
If a kit I can recommend the D'Lite.
Really the only thing making it lite is the lack of the Rock/Jazz switch and the mid or deep boost circuit both of which are easy to implement if you wish.
If you go the scratch build route you should thoroughly read through all the threads and especially in the file section and take notes on each style of circuit so that you can understand what each one entails or makes it be named that it is.
The good thing is, the differences are mainly component choices so you can try one type and if you don't care for it, change a few parts and have a completely different amp.
But remember, new parts, especially caps take a while to break in so you should give each change a fair shake down before changing it again.
In the end I guess you should listen to as many sound clips of the various styles of the D amps and choose which one you like.
My D'Lite is great for blues and rock which is what I play mainly.
If you are able to play one of the clones in person all the better.
Maybe someone here lives in or near your town and would allow you to come over and play what they have to offer.
You can't beat playing an amp in person vs listening to sound clips through computer speakers.

Thanks guys. I've been following this forum the whole time as well as Brownnote so I know what you're talking about. The D'lite kit would be nice, but I have a mass of Fender iron and some empty chassis so I might as well use them. I'm thinking of starting with this recipe:
50 watts
220k/150k plates on V1 and V2
non-HRM
skyliner tonestack w/ .047 mid cap
mid-boost
something like the "tweeeked" D'lite
Does that sound about right for strats?
I'm also considering a big departure in a different chassis:
Bluesmaster front end on a tweed Deluxe PA - only an idea...
