Interest in a D-Style Chassis run?

Post by mdroberts1243 »

I thought I would cross-post this here, since if you are like me you don't often check the For Sale listings... https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.php?t=9382

Brian (Odourboy) and I are in discussions with a local sheet metal fabrication shop to get some 100W Dumble-style chassis made... we have been bemoaning the lack of high-quality 1/8" aluminum, welded, powder-coated and silk-screened chassis since Funk went private with his excellent version.

We need a fair quantity to offset the setup charges for turret punching and silk-screening, so we are looking for some strong indication of interest before pulling the trigger on these... please visit Brian's posting for a bit more detail and PM him with your level of interest.

Is there a preference for 1/8" alum. rather than sheet metal?

I believe 'real' Dumbles use aluminum... there are quite different magnetic and electrical shielding properties that could noticeably affect tone.

The 1/8" is to make sure the chassis is strong enough to hold the heavy iron associated with 100W Power, Choke and OT without flexing.

The idea with these chassis is to be very very close to the original Dumble size and hole positions to accommodate layouts faithful to the originals.

Good news! I got 14 respondents indicating they'd like at least one chassis, so we're going to proceed with the project. :D

We'll work out the final details with the shop this week and if we're still on track, give them the go-ahead. They've indicated that it will be three weeks to completion.

Expressions of interest is now 'closed'. Thanks all!

I'm pleased that somebody else is doing this... Thanks!

I've been making various iterations of the ODS chassis for a few years now. One of my personal favorites has turned out to be the 100 watt iteration that is somewhat similar to a D'Lite... see attached image. They way I made these you can use either EDCOR or Twin iron. I had EDCOR make me a special run of iron just for these chassis. I now have a power transformer as well.

FWIW - I am working on a run of #124 chassis that I should have available in Oct.. I am only running 6 of them but will make more available if they seem like a good idea. Everything I do is available at cost plus about 10%... strictly a hobby and service for other builders, no manufacturing intentions at this point.

The one thing that I would really like to find is a source for the circuit boards? Anybody want to partner up for that effort?
