Two OD sections
Hi,
I intend to build a dclone preamp with two OD sections.
Which D-circuit types for the both most common sounds do you recommend for?

Re: Two OD sections
I would choose a Standard OD and a Bluesmaster OD. However, in order to having these two OD sections on board, that each need their own independant special clean (V1) section.stiltamp wrote:Hi,

Instead, use a standard skyliner w. high plates on V1, which can 'run' a standard OD and a HRM OD.
Remember that a Dumble amp is a system.
So perhaps it would be a better choice to build two complete amps. A standard amp and a Bluesmaster amp. Thats what I would do. Then use a switch between you guitar and the amps and do the Bonamassa thing. Now that would be real sweet.
Re: Two OD sections
I have one of those in the works - I'll post pictures in a week or so...

SWEET!

You don't mess around Henry.
Your amps look fantastic.
I have read that some guys aren't too fond of the red cabs but I love them.

Henry NICE!!!
This is sort of the flip side of the coin..2 Clean channels... 2 OD channels...You can choose which clean channel to drive which OD..OD channels are high plate HRM and high plate Standard.
Clean channels are low plate skyliner and High plate Marshall/Fender...You can switch between clean channels and mix and match different cleans w/different OD's how ever you want..(OD trim controls on the back) Too many relays!!!.. It was a cool prototype and only did this one for Robbie (Alan Jackson) Loaded 15 Delta pro.. It's 100w with built in Fender style reverb and switchable in and out buffered loop!!... Never again will I build another...

The Fuchs Triple drive has 2 sets of OD controls. I believe both sets of controls use the same tubes and ckt, just different controls. I like it a lot, the first OD is nice for mid gain and the second for higher gain tones. Very cool amp.

If the HRM is a tone stack following the OD could you have the equivalent of a switchable PAB on the HRM, or are there other differences besides?

Re: Two OD sections
The way the ODS is wired, PAB works, whether you are in clean or OD, because the OD section is switched in after the clean section, not in place of it. The PAB basically bypasses some of the tonestack which means less loss in the tonestack, thus a boost. An HRM/non-HRM switch would do more than simply add in a tonestack, however. Take a look at the schematics for ODS101HRM and ODS101NONHRM in the files section and you'll see there are many more differences between the two than just the added tonestack.ER wrote:If the HRM is a tone stack following the OD could you have the equivalent of a switchable PAB on the HRM, or are there other differences besides?

Re: Two OD sections
You could boost the HRM I guess, would start to sound more like an Non-HRM amp.
Here is another example of a dual OD amp. Has most of the bells and whistles. Both Non-HRM and HRM OD sections.

Implementing the PAB early in the circuit is a preferred method.. Dumble got it right.. Lifting the stack or bass pot break (whichever method you prefer) not only boosts the signal but the added harmonics generated is to me the greatest appeal..Then take the added harmonic content and amplify that during the OD stage becomes magnified and the effects more apparent..in your face..we've messed around with lifting the HRM stack and it's no where near the same...If wanted to add another type of boost in these amps it would be to lift the NFB a bit even more harmonic content.. We've done this on several amps where we had some unused relays..It;s easy simple works on both channels..(Really nice for clean) and also adds even more harmonic content...(You could also wire the relay so it lifts NFB in clean only if you like)....Nothing new..
Watch out for oscillations...

Re: Two OD sections
you should have all 3 channels cascade, like the clean into the OD, into the second OD for the creamiest smoothest distortion.
The second OD should be HRM but instead of internal pots they should be on the front like the Fuchs TDS

It's true i've lost my marbles and i cant remember where i put them
						Re: Two OD sections
That's the way I did it. Non-HRM can feed the HRM. Amazing sustain that way. Also I implemented mid Boost and stack lift on the HRM tone stack.JD0x0 wrote:you should have all 3 channels cascade, like the clean into the OD, into the second OD for the creamiest smoothest distortion.
