Here is a clip of my Bludo High Voltage Music Man 6L6 amp running a Glaswerks Matchbox in the loop. Slight verb and delay in there.
My friend Steve Lipinski (pinner) was playing his Collings.
Recording is just a hand held Sony PCM D50 digital flash recorder a bit off axis.
Glaswerks 2X12 cab with new Heritage G1265 speakers. Speakers are brand new.
We also recorded a clip of me Fuchs 75 mod with the same exact circuit. It is basically rewired and has a built in Dumbleator. Hence, I was not running external loop, but internal. However, my loop has cable simulation designed in.

The biggest difference is in how the different trannies saturate and the basic tonality difference of the 6L6 tubes since one runs them at 670 or so.
Thanks to Steve Lipinski for his great playing!

Re: Bludotone Ford tone
Sounds great, but I was expecting something a bit different. I was expecting more singing harmonics and less mud in the bass end. I don't really hear anything different from an unmodded amp.
Re: Bludotone Ford tone
They are totally different. Trust me..... I have had enough unmoddeds. I was standing about 45 degrees off axis with the handheld.

I'll bet you need to be there to really hear it. Clips don't do justice to subtleties of tone.

Re: Bludotone Ford tone
Thanks for sharing these Scott, I've often wondered if I should go for MM iron with high voltage. To my ear the Bludo/MM gives the notes extra 'dimension' (for want of a better word) and the top end seems to have more refinement, which is something that I struggled to achieve with my lower voltage BM and high plate amps. Certainly qualities that I hear in RF's tone.
Having said that, I thought it had been deduced at one time that RF had regular Twin iron in at least one of his amps?
To clarify, is the Bludo a BM preamp with non HRM?
Cheers, Paul.

Re: Bludotone Ford tone
I prefer the Bludo to the Fuchs in this example, especially as it relates to RF tone. There is a "hollow thickness" to the mids - don't know exactly how to describe it - that is very reminiscent of RF in the first clip. The pick attack and "bloom" or "swell" sounds spot-on as well.
Inspiring tone!
Inspiring tone!
Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...
Me: Just one more...
Re: Bludotone Ford tone
Bludo sounds a little better for me as well. Fuchs is almost dull sounding compared to Buldo.
What kind of tubes did you use? ...same tubes in both amps

What exactly is the RFMod - the 300 ohms resistor replaceing the choke??dogears wrote:http://www.scottlernermusic.com/rf/Blud ... eRFMod.mp3

Thanks!! That was "pinner" playing. He knows a whole bunch of RF tunes so he was a great demo guy!

Music Man iron sounds stellar!
Re: Bludotone Ford tone
Wow - the Bludo sounds fat!
Is it a BM?
