Rev. Billy G playing a Dumble?! (edit: NOPE! It's Sonny!)

Post by FuzzFaceBuilder »

Hey guys,

Just found THIS video of Billy G. with ABB. Cool beard gag too.

The Tan ODS on top of the Soldano behind Billy G. gets a lot of camera time, although I can't tell who's using it.

There's red shrink wrap on the plug going into the Dumble. It's probably a red wrapped straight plug on the other end. I can't make a color for the one in his LP.

I'm pretty sure it's Sonny Landreth who plugs into that Dumble.

Check the "One Way Out" clip from the same evening. The camera op. gets his spazzdik under control too!

Man, how could you see that Red shrinkwrap on the plug? My feeble eyes were looking for the airtravel vomit bag from all those camera gyrations...

Great link any how. That Derek Trucks has some serious vibe flowin' through his fingers.

I always thought The Rev. and an early Non HRM would be a perfect match..
I know he has an Express and thought I read an early GP interview where he either had an ODS or used one at one point...

Man, that what I call great tone. Wow!

It always impres me, how your amps provide such a great genuin blues tone. Very refreshing and more appealing that all those elevator jazz tones, that we just hear too often.

A little sweat shows the true potential of these (and especially your) amps.

Is it a '100k/1,5 on V1' type amp ?

Thanks for the kind words, IMHO designing good blues tone is a lot like really learning to play blues music - it should be easy because it seems so simple(just play some pentatonics and turn the amp up right?) untill you try to do it. One important design consideration is to try and keep the low notes relatively clean and tight while the high notes distort and bloom. I think HAD had that concept in mind for his amp's fusion tone when he evolved to the HRM. I don't know what changes his current design may have today, he may have come up with something even better.

Damn, just when I think I'm getting close with my amp tweaks, along you come with another clip that utterly destroys my amp's tone. Back to the drawing board, I guess

Well, even when you try to narrow it all down to 'keep the low tones relatively clean and tight while the high notes distort and bloom' - that sounds simple as well.
