Dear all (Dear Kleinm)
I've build myself a kleinulator, which is a fine and transperent construction. Didn't have any J201's, but BF245A's worked just fine.
I use two pedals in the loop an old BOSS DM3 and a new T-rex Roommate...and the following settings on the Kleinulator:
Send level : 8 oclock (down low, ccw)
Return level: 5 oclock (up full, cw)
Brights off
Mix to taste, usually 12 oclock depending on overall playin level.
I like to run parallel, but I feel that its a good idea to check the levels in series mode - like the dumbleator. However, when flipping the series/parallel switch from series mode (with the above mentioned settings) I get way to much level difference.
MOD 1: Add a 1 meg resistor i series with the 47nF and 100k on the series/parallel switch. This brings the level in parallel mode, down to match the 'series' level.
MOD 2: add a 1nF capacitor in parallel to the the 100K resistor, going to the input of FET2, from the mix potentiometer. This adds a little top end (above 1500 Hz) like the original dumbleator. Don't know if dumble added this (500pf in parallel to the 220K in his construction) to compensate for top end losses in the tubes ????
EDIT: After playin around with my two pedal (BOSS DM3 + T-rex Roommate) I realise that the series mode sound "best", which is subjective I know. I always run pedals before the amp and have no problem with the fact that pedals "suck tone" etc. However, I was sure the parallel would be better in an effects loop and that you would be "punished" (tone wise) for interrupting the signal chain in the amp with effects in series operation....but I actually prefer this to parallel. Is because I havent tried the real deal RF effects;2290 + PCM70 yet???
Klein-ulator - two small mods - EDIT: Prefers Series mode
