I don't know if I like it or not... overtone special NON HRM almost stock, 100w version, OD with pab and deep on, aria pro II es335 standard copy, mesa 2x12 recto cab...
I've got to say that playing it live results smoother, I've got a crappy shure pg58 for recording purpose, that is not well suited to guitar recording...
please feel extremely free to post your impressions and suggestions..
thanks...
AH! many thanks to Mr.Lerner for this awesome backing track, ruined by me with my sloppy playing

do you really think it sounds great? well that's encouraging
the feedback in unbeliavable...something never heard before...
my main problem is that the amp lacks some smoothness, and it's very grainy...gotta work on it...
Well, there were some areas that I didn't care for the overdrive, almost like a processed fuzz, but overall I liked it
. But like you say it could be the mic.
It never seems to sound the same between live and recorded to me either.
But I think you have a great starting place to go from.
How loud were you playing when recording?
Man, 100 watt ODS, that thing must wail.
I know my two 6L6 tube clone gets dang loud.
oh well, I was in my bedroom, waiting for the chance to bring the puppy out for a serious run...
the volume was not high...I suppose that a good output volume is a part of the best possible result...I'd like to use less gain and make it feedback more naturally, but as I said, I need more volume...
I feel also that the V30 in the recto cab are not the best speakers for this kind of amp...they're midrange heavy , so the amp...something like a celestion classic lead would be more appropriate...
The grainyness is a common OD artifact. It settles down considerably by about 4 minutes in. It's also much creamier in the upper registers. Somewhat nasal on second listen. Like you're in the region of the knee of a wah.
I wouldn't touch a thing inside but work on knob twisting. Does the deep switch do anything in PAB? I ferget. Really though, pretty minor quibbles altogether. Very nice tone and harmonics. Play with the OD trimmer and the ratio and level controls to see what happens with the lower register brassyness.
I like it

thanks for the advice, I will work on the points you suggested...the deep has an effect while the PAB is on, it's more like a MID BOOST and the rock/jazz acts as a real deep switch...

absolutely...the cab/speakers and the microphone are not so well suited to this kind of amp...celestion classic leads are a good alternative? maybe in a 3/4 open back cab...

Give it some time to break in, and try it with lower gain. It sounds like you're pushing the gain too high, especally on the lower notes.
Thanks Bob...I came from Soldano and Mesa amps, so keeping the gain high for me it's biiiiiig temptation but after a few listens I have to agree, to much preamp gain, and too low master volume...
I'll try a different approach the next time, twist some knobs and we will see...A question about the 15pF cap on the master volume...now I've removed it and seems a right move...any experience about that on your amps?
See if you can get the master bright cap in effect only for the clean tone. (May require an additional relay). If you like the clean tone better brightened up, of course.
Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...

I built a SLO Clone awhile ago. I kept lowering the gain

I've found that cap is different on every amp I've built, anywhere from none to 39pF. Listen to the bottom end more than the top end, I find that it seems to tighten up the lows, even when you don't hear the highs change.
