Question about strat tone through non hrm

My 335 clone sounds great through the amp but the strat has a bit of a buzzy quality. Does this seem normal?

My Strat has noiseless dimarzio pu's.

That has been my opinion. I love the clean channel but the OD sounds "OK" with the Strat. My 335 copy sings with the amp. Mine is close to #124 values FWIW.

Do a search through some of Gil's threads. I believe he prefers .01uF mid cap w/250KA pot for 335s and .05mid cap w/100KB pot for Strats. Of course, I could have it completely backwards.

I agree, I thought I was the only one. My strat sounds great on clean but the OD doesn't sing to me at all. I've been getting irritated because, I hear all these great sounding clips. I tried a bunch of suggestions, they help but not as much as I would hope. Maybe someone colud post a bunch of Strat clips using a non hrm dumble/or dlite 22. So I have an idea of what the potential of my build could be. I'm sure it has alot to do with iron and speaker selection. I just don't want to keep shelling money out on this thing unless its going to be a drastic difference in sound quality. Honestly, I'm ready to throw in the towel and go back to my old faithful fender amp and tube screamer. Man, Thanks for letting me vent. I'm really not going to throw in the towel, I'm just aggrevated. I just want that kick ass sound alot of people are getting.......

One question: is the HRM any more strat friendly? I think I recall Gil was fairly negative about HRMs in general.

I am pretty sure you are right about Gils prefernce..

I have also found that an 05 is the ticket for a Strat.

My HRM seems no more Strat friendly than my nons. It's a shame - because I have 2 nice Strats that have been neglected since I began toying with these amps. I will say that my Strats sounded VERY good through a (don't read this dogears) 6V6 D'Lite. Mid boost helps my Strat out a bit, but not a lot. I have begun to play a cheapo Squire '51 with a Duncan little 59er in place of the single coil. I initially bought it for my nephew to bang on, but it's the only way I've been getting my Fender scale length fix lately........ I'm keepin' it.

The thing is, is that Robben Ford uses his Telecaster a lot through his Dumble doesn't he?

I know he has the Esprit and 335 but a lot of the videos I have seen show him on the tele.
Of course I know a lot of it is him, his style, pick attack, etc.

I did find after I rewired my presence and biased a little lower it sounded better.
I mean, the amp is pretty gainy, so it can be a rock and roll amp if you like.

Telecasters yes. Different beasties. My Tele likes my amps much better than my Strats do......My opinion using my amps YMMV

Interesting - I recall a rather nice YouTube clip where some bearded luminary was getting a killer tone with a strat and D'lite (although I think it was clean rhythm rather than OD).

Same experience here..teles and humbucker guitars sing and the strats require uping the gain for sustain and by that time it's buzzy. I'm a strat guy and it's killing me to think I have to mod in a bridge humbucker to get a decent OD tone from my 2 non-HRM amps.

Your Strat tones through the D'Lite are THE Strat tones I've been looking for. Your clip reinforces my belief that I need to build a D'lite to get the Strat tones I like best. These tones can't be had through a Blackface Fender and Tubescreamer, can they? I've never done it. Thanks!
